Candy Canes[]

Candy canes are a popular, hard stick-type candy. They are usually peppermint flavored, but can also be made with cinnamon, fruit or other flavorings, and are traditionally associated with the Christmas season. Over 1.7 billion candy canes are sold in the U.S. per year.
Candy canes appear to go back at least several hundred years, their exact origin being unknown. However, they did not take on their characteristic barber-pole stripes until the 20th century. They are usually packaged individually in tightly-wrapped cellophane, and can be somewhat brittle when this is peeled away.
